Onewhero Area School is a small, rural school where we cater for students from primary right through to high school. We are a very friendly, welcoming and inclusive school, where every student is known for his or her strengths and becomes part of the OAS family.
Onewhero is strategically placed only 45 minutes from Auckland International Airport. It’s approximately half way between the cities of Auckland and Hamilton in the North Island of New Zealand. As such it gives students close contact with both city and countryside lifestyles. Set in a rural area, its location makes for a wonderful experience of traditional NZ / Kiwi culture. Our nearest large town is Pukekohe, where all entertainment, shopping, and restaurants are widely available.
Onewhero Area School has around 570 students from levels 1-13 (5 to 18 years of age). As an Area School it encourages a ‘family environment’ where older students help younger and younger students are given great role models. International students can benefit from this because they can easily practise their English skills with the children of all ages.
Involvement in the community is something that makes Onewhero Area School unique. Squash, netball, swimming, equestrian, tennis , rugby, dancing, fire brigade, St John Youth, pony club and OSPA ( the local theatre ) are just some of the local community groups with which the students join for extracurricular activities as well as those that the school provides like, Kapa-Haka (Maori Culture), Music, Drama, and Sport. Our aim is to encourage all our students to excel to the best of their ability.
We would invite anyone interested in exploring the school further to contact me for a tour. We would love to show off our fantastic school!
